Homework at Pirton Hill
Homework is given to pupils at Pirton Hill to support and embed the foundational knowledge and skills children have developed in school and to allow parents and carers to play an active role in their child’s learning.
As well as focussing on foundational knowledge and skills, the school also prioritises quality over quantity and ensures that, wherever possible, children get immediate, high-quality feedback.
The aim of homework at Pirton Hill Primary School is to:
- Create lots of opportunity to practice reading so that children can become fluent, confident and independent readers
- Provide opportunity for pupils to practice and learn to recall key facts that facilitate deep learning such as spellings, number facts and multiplication tables.
- Give parents and carers a chance to engage with the type of learning that their child is doing at school
- Enable children who have missed out on learning through poor behaviour choices to catch up on missed learning
